Do I need a referral for physical therapy?
Most insurance companies do require a doctor’s order for physical therapy. You can ask your doctor to fax it to (865) 816-6047. Medical practitioners such as MDs, Podiatrists, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Chiropractors and Dentists can all refer you for physical therapy.
However, state law in Tennessee allows for direct access (no MD referral needed) in certain situations.
Actual insurance coverage may determine if direct access is available to you.
Does my insurance cover physical therapy?
Most insurance companies cover physical therapy, but each plan may differ. As a courtesy, we will call your insurance and check your benefits prior to scheduling. Some insurance companies require authorization or precertification which may delay getting you scheduled.
How do I make an appointment?
Call (865) 816-3611 and one of our friendly, courteous staff will be happy to take your information, and get you scheduled.
What should I bring on my first appointment?
We will need you to bring
- the order/referral from you doctor
- your insurance card(s)
- a photo ID
- list of medications you take
We encourage patients to download intake forms and fill them out in advance and bring the forms with you to your first appointment. This helps make the rest of your intake faster and more efficient. We usually ask patients to arrive 30 minutes ahead of their appointment time unless you have already completed your paperwork prior to your appointment.
Patients who have completed their paperwork at home will still need to arrive 10-15 minutes earlier as we will also have you complete a computer survey about your medical condition to give the physical therapist more information about your condition.
How long does a physical therapy session last?
Most appointments may take up to an hour, depending on the condition and symptoms for which you are being treated.
